AP Sources: Admin talked jobs with Romanoff

On June 3, 2010, in News, by Caleb

Administration officials dangled the possibility of a job for former Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff last year in hopes he would forgo a challenge to Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet, administration officials said Wednesday, just days after the White House admitted orchestrating a similar job offer in the Pennsylvania Senate race.

These officials declined to specify the job that was floated or the name of the administration official who approached Romanoff, and said no formal offer was ever made. They spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they were not cleared to discuss private conversations.

the rabbit hole goes a little deeper…

The episode follows a similar controversy in Pennsylvania, where the White House last year turned to former President Bill Clinton to suggest Rep. Joe Sestak back out of another primary in favor of an unpaid position on a federal advisory board.

Sestak declined the offer and defeated Sen. Arlen Specter late last month in the Democratic primary after disclosing the job discussions and highlighting it as evidence of his anti-establishment political credentials. He said last week he rejected Clinton’s feeler in less than a minute.

With 22 pen strokes, President Obama signed into existence not just a historic healthcare reform law but also monumental piles of paperwork: New member registration forms. More claims. Ever-expanding databases. And on top of that, pressure to cut costs.

The bulge in administrative work may look like a nightmare to American insurance firms and government employees. But to outsourcing executives here in India, it’s heaven-sent. A number of Indian companies are already anticipating an increase in workload thanks to Obama’s healthcare law.

Obamacare may create some jobs in India…

The addition of 32 million insured Americans is “very significant” for Indian outsourcers, says Ananda Mukerji, chief executive officer of Firstsource Solutions in Mumbai. Companies like his will see “increased opportunities” as US health insurers and hospitals scramble to reorganize to comply with the new law, he wrote in an email to the Monitor.

This extra work will include processing new enrollments, organizing bigger member databases, processing more claims, providing more support services, and managing more revenue, he says.

Obama’s Disengaged From The Electorate

On January 14, 2010, in News, by Caleb

Today’s Quinnipiac poll shows that only 36% approve of the way Obama is handling the issue of "creating jobs" while six in ten disapprove. Incidentally, that’s a net 6-point decline for Obama on this question from just one month ago.

Obama doesn’t care what the people want, he wants to push his radical agenda

Forty-seven percent of those surveyed in the Quinnipiac survey – including a majority of Indpendents – say Obama has not spent enough time tending to the economy.

In the most recent CNN poll, the economy is the number one issue of importance to those surveyed by an order of magnitude, as it has been in every poll taken since President Obama entered office. Yet solid majorities in the CNN poll disapprove of the way Obama is handling the economy (54%), unemployment (54%), and the deficit (62%).

Ditto the most recent CBS News/NY Times poll, where 44% say "the economy and jobs" are the most important problem facing the country and 47% disapprove of the way the President is handling the issue of the economy.

After a full year of almost exclusively focusing on health care – an issue that only 10-15% of voters say is most important to them to begin with and only 38.7% of the public now approves of the bills being rammed through Congress -  it’s no wonder 50% of voters in both the CNN and the Quinnipiac polls now say they do not believe President Obama shares their views on the issue of most importance to them.

Put another way, President Obama demonstrated during his first year in office that he either didn’t understand the concerns of the electorate or, worse still, he ignored those concerns to pursue his own agenda.

President Obama brushed off criticism over his administration’s inaccurate reporting on job creation Wednesday, telling Fox News the accounting is an “inexact science” and that any errors are a “side issue” when compared with the goal of turning the economy around. He said job growth is his No.1 responsibility.

Barack Obama says the real focus is jobs; well where exactly are they?

The president was responding to criticism from Republicans, as well as Democratic Rep. David Obey, who drew attention to embarrassing errors on the Recovery.gov Web site that tracks stimulus funding. The site is under fire for claiming a number of jobs were created from the stimulus in congressional districts that don’t exist and accepting unrealistic and inflated jobs data from various sources.

Obama said he understood the “frustration” but said his focus has to be on accelerating job growth.
